WAGS 12.10.2022: Chapim to Arvad and Back Again
Ingrid led the first WAGS walk of the 2022-23 season starting from the Chapim snack bar in Silves car park. Very good to see Hilke again after many months.
The Starters
JohnH, Hazel, Myriam, Hilke, Maria, Ingrid, Janet, Yves. And a nice blue limousine at one side.
She led us past some fancy art work and the rejuvenated Silves market.
Then we took our lives in our hands to cross the "no pedestrians" foot bridge.
Past a couple of old sheds which had housed tramps and druggies for some time, now 90 % demolished
Then past Convento do Paraidiso entrance where in January 2021 Hazel had rung the door bell. This time she resisted the temptation.
Then past the extravagance of Pura Vida.
At about 4 kms, Hilke and Yves turned round and made their way back to Silves.
Then we came to a fairly recently establish Quinta, called Arvad, where the owner was seen throwing rocks at a flock of goats to drive them away from his vines.
The ringleader kept out of the way. The owner was however better disposed towards humans and he did suggest that we contact him for a wine tasting. See their website: https://arvad.pt/en/visit-us/

Neatly done, right leg over left knee.
At this point, the rest of us all turned back to Silves.

The Track and the Statistics
Back in Silves and safely across the "no pedestrians" foot bridge once more, it was decided that those lunching would sample the chicken piri-piri at Chicken George (a.k.a Valdemar Churrasqueira), so Hazel, Maria and Myriam went to reserve a table.
Ingrid, Janet and JohnH completed the walk, where they were met by TerryA who had come with his carer for a tosta mista. Luckily, Chapim proved to be open, so they did not have to go far.
The lunch was adequate, although not up to previous Chicken George standards.
Thanks to modern communications wizardry, we were able to see what Paul was feasting on at Sérgio´s in Lagos
We have received no feedback about the fare at Chapim snack bar.
Thanks to Ingrid for leading.

We have missed a beautiful walk
ReplyDeleteIt was a leisurely walk. Thank you, Ingrid.
ReplyDeleteThe lunch was not as good as advertised, but the company was excellent!
Didn't know that Terry was at Chapim until now!
Sorry to have missed him.
Hope to see him next week.
