WAGS 2023 11 15: Porto Mos Perambulation

Well, here we are again, back after a week´s hiatus: thanks go to Paulo a Pé for filling the gap with an impromptu blog last week.

This week it was Antje who came to the rescue with her walk from Porto Mos and back. A well-rehearsed track but very welcome none-the-less. Number of walkers seem to be dropping again with JohnH once again marooned among the lassies. Antje´s report follows; tactfully she leaves out the bits that John found so embarrassing, i.e. where the ladies, quite unashamed and very out-loud, discussed in detail the evolution of their body shapes and sizes over the years in relation to intimate undergarments. Thank goodness he had the scenery to look at.

Over now to Antje:-

On a beautiful November morning just 5 WAGS met on Porto do Mos beach in Lagos to climb up the cliff path and follow it to the Trig point above Luz.
Restaurant O Antonio had expanded upwards since we were last there and had added a large terrace and an even larger area of solar panels above the restaurant. We were able to buy our coffees from a kiosk on the terrace and then pose for the Starter picture.

Chris declined to clamber up the steep path and drove away to meet us a bit further along the top and walked with us for a time.
So John, Maria, Myriam and Antje set off just after ten o clock from the bottom.

"What´s she laughing at ?" "Oh look, there´s a man hiding in the bushes."

"What´s he doing?" "No, it´s OK. He´s just trying to take pictures of us."

"He´s not as clever as Yves at taking our pictures, is he?"

The views across Lagos bay and towards Luz were spectacular as ever and we reached the Atalaia trig point after a very enjoyable, uneventful stroll.

There, as a reward, John dished out some chocolate.

We then spent a moment or two on doing some body-stretching exercises.

We then returned through the little pine forest and noted how well kept it was. The  ground had been cleared, the trees trimmed, with not a caterpillar nest in sight.

Then through the narrow passage between the two large properties whose fences had been reinforced and black canvasses prevented any view inside.

The reclusive Eagles Eye

We followed the road along the edge of the Boa Vista Golf complex and noted that even more houses are being built and the road itself  has been upgraded.

Boa Vista- a little suburbia of its own

We then turned right to re-join the cliff path and after a slight deviation to avoid some beehives.....

......ended up above the sea again and so back down to the beach.

A table for lunch had been secured for us at Restaurant Atalaia by Chris where Paul joined us as well. Blogger´s lunch report follows.
I was glad I had not brought Sascha along as it really was quite warm. She is 13 now and sadly should no longer do even the 6 and a bit kms we walked that day.

The Track and Statistics

Time about 2 1/2 hours in total; moving about 2 hrs.

Lunch Report

Of course, equal if not greater blogging emphasis should be placed these days on the lunch than on the walk, because it is the lunch that we come for, so hats off, or "un coup de chapeaux" (comme on dit),  to Antje for choosing the Atalaia. They did us proud.

We won´t mention the plentiful bread rolls nor the garlic and olive oil dip that accompanied them nor the drinks but will go straight on to strating with the soupe de menu,

As to mains, sadly the pasteis de bacalhao were all gone by the time we got there, but we had......

Portuguese sausage - alhiera if I am right (?)

Entremeada no forno (huge helping)

Frango grelhado

Paul had a grilled fish which did not take kindly to being photographed, but he see
med to enjoy it.

There were no vegetable or salad choices which was a shame and some of the chips and the chicken when first served seemed cold but, when asked, they were quickly replaced hot from the oven without hesitation or argument by our waitress.

Why she is showing Paul the finger, heaven knows. Probably some thing he said.

"Something I said? Butter wouldn´t melt in my mouth"

And the waitress even took this excellent group picture.

And then came the dessert menu which, when it was recited to us, seemed never-ending.

In the end we had....

Lime and lemon mousse (delicious !)

Baked apple

Pudim

Chocolate mousse

Pineapple slice

And then the coffees which brought with them a little bit of home-spun philosophising.

Translate them at your leisure.

So a happy crew after that meal, and all for Euro11.50 a head, would you believe !

Photo credits to Antje, Myriam, JohnH, and to Paul who made up for the absence of Yves with his lunchtime portraiture.

A closing remark about the food. The pork entremeada dish that I was served was so generous that  I could not possibly finish it there and then, so I got a "para fora"  and had an excellent meal from it the next day, augmented with some veg and a dash or two of Hazel´s sweet chilli and garlic sauce.

Closing Music

Is life a bed of roses? Was Myriam was trying to persuade Maria that it is when she took this shot?

Doesn´t look too comfortable, but we will let Bon Jovi have the last word.

Comments

  1. Oh dear, even the blog is succumbing to Wokeness with John avoiding the best bits of the discussion!
Also Id like to set the record straight as to the curious case of the waitress's finger. She was not giving me the finger because of something I had said. That particular gesture is known as the come hither, or 'come and get it big boy,' finger.
