WAGS 2023 11 22: Four Do Alvor

Let´s start straight away with the Leader´s Report by Rod:-

Board/Beach Walks seem to be becoming rather frequent these days...maybe because rather by definition they tend to avoid hills!.... so here was yet another one.  This rather delayed (even more than usual for me) report was this time caused by the intervention of the St. Andrew's Ball, which in the event I found rather more knackering than the walk itself.

The initial very limited gathering of Antje, John and Rod was augmented by the presence of Myriam who was temporarily released from tending to her patient incarcerated in HPA Alvor. So the four of of us set off on a really splendid autumn morning from the Alvor Swimming Pool Café (friendly always agreeable folk) and headed east along the newer section of the boardwalk towards Praia de Três Irmãos.

Myriam danced with a jobseeker named Luis

who was already well-fortified spirit-wise against the morning breeze.

We hardly had the boardwalk to ourselves, passing numerous elderly retiree couples (well they were probably actually younger than us!), and being overtaken by a group of determined, backpack laden stompers who looked rather like we probably did about 20 years ago!

Elf and Saiftey are here , never fear.

Towards the end of the boardwalk we dropped down to the beach. The tide was quite high still but well on the ebb so there was plenty of firm sand to walk on.

Shoes and a bundle of clothing abandoned - - no sign of an owner, anywhere

Perhaps he made his getaway on this catamaran

We watched a paraglider make a pin-point landing.

Some half way along the main Alvor beach we went back up to the boardwalk and headed back again to complete a modest not quite 6k stroll.

The Track and the Statistics

As far as I recollect...increasingly little these days.. there were no exciting or even interesting events to report so we arrived back at the Swimming Pool Café where Chris was waiting for us, having just come from visiting the aforesaid incarcerated Paul.. This café may not reach the epicurean standards seemingly demanded these days but the tostas, bifanas, and soup were well up to scratch.

The soup was in demand

Meanwhile, Paul was being well-provided for at HPA

More Statistics

Rod said earlier that we were avoiding hills. Not sure, therefore, how his statistics show that he climbed as high as 61 metres......

whereas my statistics (same walk -same measuring app) say that I climbed only 9 metres,

Maybe he had tested the Tsunami Evacuation Route when the rest of us weren´t looking.

No closing music this week but since, when we had watched the paraglider doing his landing, we had briefly wondered how paragliders take off, here is an instructive video:-
