WAGS 26 06 2024; Antje´s Bonus issue
Just when we thought it was all over for the WAGS season, Antje returned from her cruise round the British Isles and offered to lead us around Meia Praia beach one more time.
"Although the WAGS season had officially
ended, I decided to extend our walking season for one more week. It
promised to be a cool Wednesday and I had missed quite a few walks.
John, Hazel, Myriam and Paul, Maria, Lesley,
Antje and Chris met at Lagos station for a repeat
performance of the last Meia Praia walk, I think it was back in April.
Sascha and Chris had already walked so they went home after our coffee and starter photo.
We left the station to walk along the little tidal lake to the railway track. Here Paul went off along the beach on his own, having no compunction in leaving John alone with the five ladies.
The group crossed over the road along the Vila Gale Hotel and then took the path across the now dry meadow that led us to the stand of pine trees and the Adventure play ground.
Carrying on eastwards, no cows with calves to block our way this time, we passed Bougainvilla apartments and ended up at the level crossing of Meia Praia and the beach ahead of us.
We didn´t take the train home from Estação Meia Praia because the promise of a coffee stop at Bar Quim appealed to all.
There Paul was re-united with his admiring fans.
The tide was now in our favour and we walked back along the beach to the last leg of the walk way and brushed the sand from our toes.
and then it was on to Tasca Lota our well earned lunch venue where Chris met us.
Sardines were on the menu, they were delicious and enjoyed
by most of us.
The distance walked was 7 km plus. Time 3 hours but
that does not take into account our delayed start."
