WAGS 25 09 2024: Dona Ana, or Do You Like Kibbling?
This was another of Antje´s gentle outings along the Dona Ana boardwalks which are always pleasant, even if, as on this occasion, the day was damp-ish and overcast-ish.
In the absence of a Leader´s report (Antje probably hasn´t got anything more to say about these walks) the best your Blogger can do is to reproduce some of Yves´ inimitable prose which he sent in with his equally inimitable photographs, because it does allude to the precipitation.
I quote:-
"A very mixed bag
today; as expected, wimmin and the weather form the twin major strands of the
despatch. For the most part, the wimmin were their charming selves and
accommodated the snapper’s whims with their customary good grace, bless their
cotton socks… Their smiles tell the whole story.
One wimmin who infiltrated the snapper’s peripheral long-range vision had decided to practise yoga on a hill-top: her ‘doggy position’ was to behold!
The weather? ‘Kein
rain in Lagos! Kein rain forecast!’ said the lying leader…"Light mist."
It was dripping
like a bucket with a hole in its top in Algoz, so this ejeet set off with a skip
in his gait and a tankful of unleaded… Approaching Portimao, the spots of wet
water became blotches again and the wipers took it upon themselves to get to
work: people could now see who they were going to crash into. Common courtesy,
is it not?
The slight ‘mist’ in Lagos soon became a thick-ish mist.
Assorted bit and bobs include kayakers trying to keep dry on the ocean and a blue-brown magpie that kindly posed long enough to be recorded for posterity.
Yves"
We dispensed with the customary Starter photograph because of the damp; this was the best we could do, umbrellas at the ready.

Hazel photoed a large hole.
The "wimmin" posed nicely. Photos were taken of participants at the Farol tourist trap (sorry, at the Farol Café) to make up for the lack of Starter record.
Myriam hitched a ride on Chris´s buggy.
and the kayakers did their stuff down below us.
Yves took his artistic pictures
and was also caught taking a selfie with Janet.....
with this result....
The Leader cheered up when the rain disappeared....
This way, ladies, please
Thanks, that´s better The Track and the Statistics
Those who walked all the way back along the Via Dolorosa to Trinidade Café where we lunched probably did an extra km or so.
The Lunch
We were joined by Chris and Paul, and Rod and Yves stopped by as well to have a beer and, in Rod´s case, to watch us eat.
There was veal.......
and there was a very adequate"bochecha do porco no osso." Not bad value. And there were plenty of left-overs to take away:
And if you are wondering what the title to this piece "Do you like kibbling?" is all about, it was all because of this almond tart. `
In English literary circles, there is an old joke "Do you like Kipling?" referring to the English writer, Rudyard Kipling, a question to which the correct answer is, of course a pretence of ignorance - "I don´t know. I´ve never kipled."
But in this case, it turns out that both Antje and Hazel have frequently kibbled.
(Kibble: verb transitive. to grind cereal, etc., fairly coarsely. [Origin obscure.] according to my Chambers dictionary.)
They have both kibbled almonds, resulting in those small slices or grains of almond on the tart, as seen above.
Gosh, aren´t our WAGS lunches worth attending?

Some lovely photos. Far be it from me to comment on the Chief Bloggers lack of caution in his research on blog titling, and I am confident that Chambers is accurate as far as it goes, but one always has to look a little more widely. Not only does the most prominent definition of 'kibble/ing on the internet refer how to make a special food to tame dinosaurs in the ARK series of online games, but if one were to look further in the Urban Dictionary (my favourite Goto book of reference) one would not be surprised to learn that I was a little shocked to discover that both Antje and Hazel are frequent practitioners of the sport!!
ReplyDelete“Lack of caution”? Can someone please explain what Paul is talking about.
ReplyDeleteAnother good Blog with beautiful and artistic photos.
ReplyDeleteIt was a refreshing and relaxing walk. The "mist" enhance the freshness!
Of course, without saying, the convivio lunch was the highlight when we could sit together and all talk at the same time!! 😀
Thank you all, for the company!
