WAGS 2025 01 15: WAGS Discipline Saves The Bacon

I could tell from the grim looks on their faces that it did not look at all good and that there was trouble ahead. We were in the café before the start of the walk and Maria was talking to Boss Lady Patricia about our intended table reservation.
The walk had been advertised for a 10.00 start, about 7 kms and with lunch at about 12.30.
The enthusiastic and immediate reply had been from Lesley:-

"I´m there and I already know what I´ll be having. I was dreaming about the duck rice when I couldn´t eat earlier this week! "

And now from what I could gather, Patricia was telling Maria that she could not reserve a table for us. The restaurant is now so popular that it´s first come, first served. She could not keep a large table empty for half an hour with lots of hungry patrons standing around.

At first the Leader thought "Well, sod it. We can all go to Silves Pizza Plazza instead." But then he thought of the likely look on Lesley´s face with no duck rice to be had - "grim" would not fit the bill.

Decision time. Start the walk promptly: cut the walk short: and sit down for lunch at 12 noon.
Done deal. Smiles all round. But not all the walkers were there yet, and the Lagos Lunchers (a.k.a Paul and Myriam) were scheduled to arrive at 12.30.

But it all worked out in the end. All the walkers turned up in good time. The Starter photo was taken quickly. Everybody did what they were told. Paul and Myriam were alerted by phone to arrive early for lunch. And we set off almost on the dot ! Just look at the timings.

 !

Off at 10.03 and back precisely at 12.00.

And we kept moving. Well done, All.

The Starters: Richard, Antje, Hazel, Geraldine, Lesley, Gerry, Rod, Yves, Maria, and JohnH

A better turn-out compared to recent weeks, and possibly the first time there have been two Geraldines on the same WAGS walk.

Not much of note happened on the walk; we just kept on going. Yves complained about the first up-slope but then he always does.

We looked at the villas under construction in Poço Frito Novo. One building site at least seems to have come to a complete halt.

There were fewer assistant photographers on this occasion, it is so easy to leave the camera at home.

Our favourite fencing man made his presence obvious once more.

11.15  hrs and we increased the speed over the final stretch...

Full speed ahead

and so we got back on the stroke of 12.  Our bacon and our duck were saved.

The Track and the Statistics

Yes, we had had to cut the walk short a bit but there were no complaints I heard off about that, nor about the speed which is about our average these days.

The Lunch

Fevras
