WAGS 2025 01 29: Memories and Multi-Tasking

You just can´t keep a good Leader down. After the non-walking damp squib last week, here is Antje bouncing back, keen as ever to lead and also to write her report while watching TV ! Multi-tasking at the highest level.

The Starters: Audrey, Myriam, Chris, Maria, Hazel, JohnH, Antje, Kin and Sascha.

Seven met at Lagos station hoping the weather report was not correct, as was the case last week.

Myriam with sister no 5 Audrey and husband Kin, John, Hazel and Maria plus Antje.
I had walked Sascha to the station and she walked  on with us for a little. Chris then took her home.

Sometimes enough is enough.

We headed for the beginning of the walkway, passing some colourful graffiti and the rather smelly fishing harbour.

The cormorants didn´t seem to mind the smell.

Is it the Year of the Caterpillar?

and then we passed the  cat colony. The cats live in a large wooden house with many “doors“ and plenty of towels  and blankets  to keep  them comfortable.
Although we were only 7 we soon spread out. Myriam‘s sister had to walk slowly so it was decided that they would walk at their  own pace and we remaining 4 walked on.

We read the information boards where they had not been vandalised with acrylic spray.

There were ominous grey clouds to the west and rain had been promised for 12.
and rain it did, promptly at midday. We had made a "comfort stop“ cum coffee break at Bar Berlim  and so caught the rain on our way back.

The Track

The Lunch

We had decided to lunch at the Adega.  Chris  was going to join us and then Paul turned up as well, 9 people managed to arrive at 4 different times! Chairs had to be rearranged, much  to the displeasure of one of the servers. We then had to wait until somebody decided to come and take our orders, after some encouragement from Maria for them to do so.  It was a shambles und put us all off going there again. 2 of the menu choices were unavailable ( were they ever on, the place had been pretty empty at arrival) and the food was ok but certainly not memorable. The wine was cheap and not bad. The company good as ever, and that‘s what counts in the end. We walked about 7 km.

Jardineira de choco

Panados de porco

Paul consoled himself with the expensive wine

Kin´s coffee was spectacular

Over to you John. Feel free to improve. Written while watching tv

Some meals are memorable. This one will remain in the memory for other reasons.

No, not the Year of the Caterpillar but....

Comments

  1. Antje has lived up to her nickname "The Rain Maker", if you remember the very wet walks she led from Carrapateira.
This was certainly the wettest one we have had for many years. And terribly strong wind too. Quite an experience!! No matter!! The importance is that we managed to get together for another Wednesday. The company is always enjoyable, be it shine or rain!!
Yet, the lunch was more memorable, from a very negative point of view. Of all the years living in Portugal, I had not experienced such a rude service from the staff!!
This has certainly left a bad impression on Audrey and Kin who came all the way from Vancouver to enjoy the local hospitality.
Don't think we will ever go there again!
