WAGS 2025: 05/21, 05/28 & 06/04 :Three For The Price Of One
Yes, a triple bill of fare, for various reasons.
First, on 21st May, Antje led a select group in the Meia Praia area. Here is her succinct report which does not give very much away:-
"There
were Myriam, myself and a young Dutch neighbour of mine and we walked
7.1 km. Starting from the station past the cat colony to the
boardwalk. We stopped at Bar Quim briefly before walking back the way
we came. It was sunny but a strong breeze kept us cool.
Chris
joined us for lunch, see photos.
It was very good. All inclusive."
and her photos:-
Apparently, the chicken soup is highly recommended.
Then, on 28th May, Rod led a gentle stroll along the Alvor boardwalk. His report was even more discreet than was Antjé´s, because in fact he decided not to submit one at all.
"Just look at the time ! Well, can´t sit here all day:"
Part of the boardwalk is sagging badly. Closing for repairs soon. We observed a busy egret
Maria gave us a biology lesson.

"To report or not to report; that is the question."
On this occasion, we did not have after-walk snacks at the Alvor Sports Complex café but adjourned for a proper lunch to the nearby Restinga Ria restaurante where we were entertained with some music provided by a pretty girl with a pretty blue dress and an equally pretty voice.
When she spoke to us later in order to relieve us of some coinage, we could not place her accent but the informative waitress told us that she was Irish.
The refreshments were good
and omelettes and Salads a la Ria were the orders of the day; a trifle more expensive than our normal.
Chris and Lesley, who is suffering from a possible broken foot (more on that later), joined us for lunch.
And to round off the Blog´s Bargain Three, on 4th June, Antje (who is challenging strongly for the Leader of the Year title) led us on another Praia Dona Ana walk.
Here is Antje´s report of that expedition:-
On a sunny but fresh day, six of us met at Praia Dona Ana in Lagos for a boardwalk to Piedade and return.
Present were John and Hazel and Maria arriving together and so did Myriam, Christl and Antje.
The views from the boardwalk across Lagos Bay were
stunning and at the first covered stopping point we were serenaded by
some guitarist.
We proceeded at a leisurely pace but, even
so, everybody voted for a coffee, or as it turned out, ice
cream stop in the cafe by the lighthouse.
We met quite a few tourists on the way but not yet as many as will be there next month. But by then, we shall take a break.
John opted for a shorter
return journey, the remainder followed to the end of the path
overlooking the little beach before Luz.
By adding in a little
detour we ended with just over5 km distance walked.
Lunch was prebooked at a new venue for the WAGS in Lagos, Casa Benfica. It provided a good menu do dia for only 13 euros. (I think her group had lunched here on 21st May to try it out.)
Lesley, still nursing a suspected broken large toe, and Paul and Chris joined us there as well.
Prioritise the drinks There was chicken soup, and then the majority had sardines
And now we can revert to the matter of Lesley´s pedal extremities (as Fats Waller liked to call feet).
The story goes that Lesley took time and trouble to prepare a small garden plot beside her condominium and then lovingly planted some flowering shrubs. A disobliging neighbour then raked out all the plants, whereupon Lesley kicked the disobliging neighbour quite hard, damaging her foot in the process. We hope she gets better quickly.Lesley has taken a solemn oath not to comment on or contribute to the Blog in any way, either on or off the record, and I can safely say that she will not take the bait on this occasion, so we may never know the facts but this does bring us to an interesting philosophical question - what is the difference between reality and truth.
If this were a Blog written by our mentor, Paul, you would now be treated to pages of learned references to logicians and metaphysicians who have dealt with the subject, but I will spare you that and simply copy what Chatbox AI says.
"In Simple Terms:
-
Reality is what is.
-
Truth is what is said or believed accurately about what is."
Here, the story is reality - it really is a story. But is a real story necessarily a true story? I will leave the thought with you.
All of which is but an elaborate way of introducing our closing music, one of my favourite Fats Waller nonsense songs, "Your Feet´s Too Big."
