WAGS 2025 06 18: Bensafrim Once More Or A Sting In The Tale
The Leader´s Report
Stung by castigation for my rare failure (even if often tardy) to provide comments on a walk for which I was responsible, I now attempt to make amends!....on the assumption that John might somehow blog in absentia! Map under separate cover, fotos from elsewhere!
A hottish morning indeed but with a cooling breeze still under 30º. Four were destined to turn up which I thought might have been a quorum, whatever indeed constitutes a quorum, but this was reduced to Three by Antje's last minute withdrawal leaving a Ménage à Trois of Myriam, Maria and Rod in between!
So off we set along the road towards Barão S João turning off along the track to the right. Nothing new here except some very solid new wire fencing protecting the dogs and horses in the farm. The track rises gradually to a ridge, passing on the way some very relaxed cows lying down (no sign of rain though) right beside the track and and some horses and riders passing in the opposite direction.
At the very top of the ridge just below a farm, there were two «amora» trees with already ripening fruit, so quite a few minutes were spent plucking these with juice bloodied fingers. Just beyond there is a cross-road with the track to the right much more used than it ever had been. “Used” it became apparent by the owners of some rather dubious looking dwellings hidden amongst the trees on the hillside. We passed these along, eventually, a track which, believe it or not, we had never passed before. Well it was heading in the right direction, avoided the well-used main route back to Bensafrim, and the sight of a vehicle parked under a tree encouraged us to believe we could get back to the road rather than be trapped behind a barbed wire fence. Indeed we did emerge back on the road just north of the roundabout at the end of the A22. From there a simple walk back to Bensafrim. A short walk at 5k but at least in part something different. Paul was soon to appear at the restaurant followed by Antje and Chris and then, which was a most charming surprise, by the chance appearance of Sonja. And so to lunch which doubtless someone else will comment on...or will they ?
Rod.

It was good to walk, any walk, on Wednesdays. We must keep this old tradition alive!!
ReplyDeleteOf course, nowadays the main purpose is to lunch. We had had a good turn out!!
Sardines were excellent, especially eaten "à maneira portuguesa"!! The other dishes were up to Rota Algarviana's standard. We would have enjoyed more if more of us were present!
